Happy April everyone!! Yesterday officially started my cruise countdown. We leave out for Miami on May 2nd. We actually get on the boat on May 4th!! WOOT!! As I've said before, this cruise is in celebration of my and Casey's 10th anniversary. Well, our actual anniversary is April 9th, but we can celebrate just as well on the boat two weeks later!
This past weekend was spent getting even more stuff done on our pre-cruise list. We cleared one of the biggest hurdles: Casey's suits. We managed to get him two new suits for around $200.00. I had actually budgeted for much more for just one suit. We were in Franklin this past Sunday and dropped by S&K Menswear. They were having a terrific sale on suites: 2 for $200.00. So, we went ahead and got what we needed. Our cruise is having two formal nights, so we needed to get our wardrobe in order. Luckily, I got my dresses several months ago. Now, we just have a few things left on the list. We still need a new suitcase, and we still have to get our car tuned up. I'm sure I'll think of a hundred other things, before we leave. I'm glad I still have nearly a month to get it all done!!
World Swim Against Malaria I will be taking part in World Swim Against Malaria alongside a million other swimmers from all over the world. We are raising money to buy mosquito nets to help protect people from malaria, which currently kills over 1.5 million each year. 70% of the deaths are children under 5. $5 buys a mosquito net that can save a life. 100% of the money we all raise buys nets. If you would like to learn more about this global grassroots initiative, please visit www.WorldSwimAgainstMalaria.com. We’d love you to join us.

Hi Sheryl, I'm with the American Pet Cross www.americanpetcross.com and this week we've been collaborating with American Red Cross, the Executive Director from your state's Humane Society, the State Vet, DART volunteers and Purina to help out in your state. As you'd mentioned, kennels, leashes and all other pet equipment and materials (even blankets) will be needed for the folks who have lost everything.... But what may come as a surprise to some of your readers is that what's of dire urgency is that we need hey and land to house all the displaced cattle right now. It's actually a big problem. Please help us spread the word, we need some help with hey and land to house cattle. PS Came across your blog and really like it!!! Thanks Jon LoDuca American Pet CrossThanks Mr. LoDuca! I'm glad that you like the work I do here. If anyone would like to help out, please contact any of the agencies listed above or The Nashville Humane Association at (615)352-1010. I Adopted Your Dog Today I adopted your dog today The one you left at the pound The one you had for seven years and no longer wanted around. I adopted your dog today Do you know he's lost weight? Do you know he's scared and depressed and has lost all faith? I adopted your dog today. he had fleas and a cold, but don't worry none. You've unburdened your load. I adopted your dog today. Were you having a baby or moving away? Did you suddenly develop allergies or was there no reason he couldn't stay? I adopted your dog today. he doesn't play or eat much He's very depressed, but he will learn again to trust. I adopted your dog today. And here he will stay. He's found his forever home and a warm bed on which to lay. I adopted your dog today. And I will give him all that he could need. Patience, love, security, and understanding. Hopefully he will forget your selfish deed. -Author Unknown
A Rescue Prayer Now I lay me down to rest I pray my soul can stand this test Of watching critters lose their homes While owners gripe and cry and moan I long for strength of spirit that They'll find a loving home again Where they will know a loving heart I can't do much, but it's a start And spare me from the owner's pleas About the baby's allergies Or how they're moving out of state Or spitefulness 'tween cat and mate Please keep me sane while dealing with The woman who bought as a gift A wriggling tiny ball of fluff That now is playing way too rough Remind me I should bite my lip When confronted with "he grew too quick" "I didn't know he'd get so large" "He seems to think that he's in charge" Protect my heart when I hear them say "I think we'll breed our dog one day" Sometimes I think it'll break in two; Each day brings trials harsh and new And if I die before I wake I pray one hopeless soul you'll take My tears are gone, my faith is bare Lord, please hear my rescue prayer. ~ Unknown

AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 39, Chapter 14, relative to pit bull dogs. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE: SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 39, Chapter 14, Part 2, is amended by adding the following new section thereto: § 39-14-215. (a) As used in this section, unless the context otherwise requires: (1) "Own" means to harbor, keep or exercise control over the dog, and "owner" means a person who, at the time of the offense, regularly harbors, keeps or exercises control over the dog; (2) "Pit bull dog" means any pit bull terrier; and (3) "Pit bull terrier" means any American pit bull terrier, Staffordshire bull terrier, American bulldog or American Staffordshire terrier breed of dog or any mixed breed of dog which contains as fifty percent (50%) of its breeding the breed of American pit bull terrier, Staffordshire bull terrier, American bulldog or American Staffordshire terrier, so as to be identifiable as partially of the breed American pit bull terrier, Staffordshire bull terrier, American bulldog or American Staffordshire terrier. (b) It is an offense for any person to knowingly own a pit bull dog in this state. (c) A violation of this section is a Class A misdemeanor. To view the legislative action on this bill so far, click HERE. To view the bill in it's entirety, click HERE. I think people are quick to ban the Pit Bull. We've all heard the stories. Heck, even our "spare dog" was attacked by a Pit Bull, but I refuse to judge an entire breed by the actions of a few. I KNOW there a good, well-mannered Pits out there. I've even seen one in action at work. He works as a special assistance dog for a disabled patron. He's wonderfully sweet, and he does his job well. I really think that Tennessee should look at Dangerous Dog legislation, instead of breed banning legislation. They should hold the owners of dangerous dogs accountable, instead of dooming thousands of innocent dogs. Also, the bill proposes the surrender of the illegal Pits to the humane associations, but provides no funding for the enforcement or care of these animals to the humane associations. We all know these organizations are VERY overworked and undercrowded. This bill essentially shifts the responsibility and manpower to these organizations, and it isn't right. I believe they are taking as someone close to me says, "a shotgun approach, when a rifle would do a better job", approach. I feel this law would only punish the owners that do what they are supposed to in the first place. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I don't feel this legislation is well thought out at all. To all of my friends in Tennessee, we can't let this happen. Let's instead push for Dangerous Dog legislation that is enforceable. To find out who your reps are and how to contact them, click HERE.
