Halo Thar!

Just wanted to check in quickly and let you all know that I'm finally feeling a bit better. I've spent every day, since Saturday, battling bronchitis. Luckily, I already had a dr.'s appointment scheduled for Monday. I got a shot, some good anitbiotics, and orders for breathing treatments. I was finally able to get out of bed for a while today. Even though the shot has cleared my lungs and made me feel better, it has made me hyper. It's also caused me to have insomnia, which is a side effect. I haven't hardly slept any since Monday. I'm hoping maybe tonight will be different, but it's not looking hopeful at this point. I'm still waiting to get my voice back too. I think this loldog sums up my week:

Impossible by Nancy Werlin

This book is by FAR the best book I've read this year. It is extremely well written. The story is a fairy tale that is grounded in a very modern day world. I especially loved the historical aspect of the story and the research involved in this story. I also enjoyed the look into folk music and musical lyrics. It was a rivetying story that I couldn't put down. I read the whole thing, in less than 24 hours. Definitely a "goodreads" book!

The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by E. Lockhart

This book was AWESOME in a way that I can't even begin to explain. I can see why it's a Printz Honor book. There are SO many themes in this book, but I think the one that stands out to me is to be yourself and not who people expect you to be. Also, feminism plays a strong role. This story was completely predictable, but with completely unpredictable twists and turns. I highly recommend it for a good read.

I Wanted to Just Die...

during my circuit training class tonight. But now that I've cooled off, I feel pretty great! I always dread it beforehand, but it always makes me feel better. I had a pretty good day at work today. I spent a lot of time catching up with my students and also showing the gang Indiana's 1st birthday pictures. I think this one

just might be my very favorite. I'm about to feed the puppies the very last of the cake. They've been enjoying it, since Sunday. The cake was homemade, so it has no preservatives. The shelf life is very short. Then again, no dog treats ever sit around here long enough to spoil...homemade or not.

Indiana's First Birthday

Today was Indiana's first birthday. We celebrated in style with a party and doggie cake. All of the dogs had a GREAT time, and we did too. Even Grandma came over for the festivities. Here's the shots from the party.

Snuggling On A Cold Night

On cold nights, Ramsay just loves to cuddle up with Indiana. I'm not exactly sure when they got so close, but they sure do love to cuddle.

Huh???

Well, Casey completely has the doctor stumped. He is still running a fever, but he doesn't really have any other symptoms. They gave him a flu swab, but he tested negative. The doctor noticed that he had a couple of infected cat scratches on his hand, so he thinks that he maybe has Cat Scratch Fever (...cue song...) The doc is stumped, because he's really not showing sure signs of that either. All we know right now is he definitely has an infection somewhere. They did a lot of bloodwork, and we should have some of the results by tomorrow afternoon. The rest, we'll have by Monday. Everyone keep a good thought.

Oh No!

Earlier this afternoon, Casey was complaining that he was dizzy and REALLY cold. He took a short nap, but woke up with a horrible headache. He has felt poorly all evening. His headache took on a life of its own, and then he complained about being hot. I went and got the thermometer and took his temperature. I was shocked at the reading! It was slightly over 102! The scary part is he took some Tylenol about 45 minutes, before I took his temp. The weird thing is, other than his dizziness complaint, he has no symptoms. The only thing I can figure is maybe he has an inner ear infection. Either way, it looks like I'll be off from work again tomorrow. I'm going to drive him to the doctor's office.

Mental Health Day

You ever have one of those days, where you're really not good for yourself or others? Yeah well, I've definitely had one of those days today. So much so, that I took the day off. I just didn't feel like dealing with myself or others. It started with the frustration that was yesterday. I chose a good day to take off, too. The weather has been crappy, and I have everything done around the house. Most of the day has been spent vegging on the couch and sipping coffee out of bigc mugs over at my Mom's. I'm feeling a little more grounded this afternoon. I'll be fine tomorrow. I just needed some time to be with myself in the quiet. It also helps to have a big puppy pile on you too.

Fast Days

Why does it seem that the days go by so fast this time of year? I'm looking SO forward to spring and summer. I just love those long days. On my days off, it seems the days go by so fast. I haven't gotten much at all accomplished today. Casey, Mom, and I had breakfast together this morning. Afterwards, I went to the Rec. Center and swam laps. Now, I'm just sitting here killing time surfing the net. Maybe, I'll get more accomplished tomorrow.

Oh Skunk!

It has definitely been a strange day! I ended up taking the day off, due to a skunk! Fortunately, there was no tangle with the dogs or cats. Everybody was inside at the time around 9:30 last night. The dogs just started going CRAZY!! As it turns out, a skunk had gotten underneath our house and sprayed. The smell was horrible, and the dogs barked all night long. Needless to say there wasn't much sleep last night, so Casey and I both took the day off. I finally got to sleep around 5:00 a.m. this morning.

After I had a good, long sleep I felt much better. After lunch, I went to the Rec Center and had a nice long swim. I came back home, took my shower, and fixed me some leftovers. Casey is in his culinary class tonight. So, I'm just lounging and fiddling on the new laptop. I think I might read a little, before bed. I just hope tonight isn't nearly as eventful as last night!

The Newness

Our brand new micro laptop arrived today. I'm actually typing my first blog entry with it now. Even though it's tiny, the resolution is great. The built in speaker isn't too shabby, and it's super fast. The only thing that I'm getting used to is the new keyboard. It's just a tiny bit smaller than a regular laptop, and sometimes I hit buttons and don't know what I've done. It was super easy to set up, and super easy to use! All that said, I LOVE it!!!

Excited!

I took my birthday money and ordered myself a new laptop. WOOT! Our laptap at home is a certified antique, so this will be a welcome change. I got the Acer Aspire One Intel Atom 160GB. It's one of the mini laptops. It weighs only 2.2 lbs., so it will be great to put in my backpack and take to class with me.

They were out of the blue, so I got the black instead. I am SO excited!

Snowy Day

Since today was MLK day, Casey and I were both off from work. We slept in YAY!! When we got up it was snowing. For quite a while until early afternoon, it was pretty steady. The yards and the rooftops had started to turn white. I still had several errands to do, so I threw on my coat, scarf, and gloves and headed out the door. I always love being out in the snow, as long as the roads aren't bad. I had gotten so cold while I was out, that I was REALLY sleepy after I got warm. Casey had made some homemade chicken and rice soup, so after a big bowl of that, I had a nap. By early afternoon, the snow had stopped and the sun was peeking out. It's really too bad. Since it lasted most of the day, I was hoping for a measureable snow just once this winter. Oh well, I guess I can keep wishing.

More Motivation

I'm happy to say that I've been a little bit more motivated today. When Casey and I got up this morning, we went over to have morning coffee and breakfast with Mom. After I got home from there, I got my swim bag together and headed for the Rec Center. I had a really nice swim today. It ended up being much warmer than they had predicted. It almost felt like spring. The sun was streaming through the pool room windows, so it was really nice. I got in 1500 meters this afternoon. I did forget to see if they would be closed tomorrow for MLK day. Maybe, maybe not. We'll see. I'm going to try and settle down to read for a while tonight. I'm sure that the puppies will be happy to help me hold down my grey blanket! I hope that everyone has a great holiday tomorrow!

Snuggle Up!

Even though it was a little warmer today, it was still cold. Cold enough that I took refuge on the couch with my blanket all day. Indiana and Shingo kept me company snuggling with me all day long. I spent the day alternating between reading and watching movies. My guilty side says that I shouldn't have wasted all that time today. But isn't just so good to snuggle up on a cold winter day?

Extreme Cold Weather Tips for Pets

WOW!! It's REALLY cold outside today. Even though we are able to bundle up and stay warm, our pets need special considerations during the extreme cold. Things you should consider, especially if your pet stays outdoors: Make sure your pet has fresh, unfrozen water available. Using non-metal food and water bowls during freezing temperatures, so pets don't get their tongues or mouths frozen to the surface. A dog house or shelter that faces away from the wind. Weekend Wrap Up

First, I want to thank everyone for the birthday wishes. I had a terrific birthday. Casey took me to Red Robin for a great burger. Dinner was fantastic. I especially liked the strawberry lemonade. Yummy! Afterwards, we walked over to the mall and shopped a little bit. I saw a lot of ok stuff, but nothing that I really liked. When we got home, we stopped by Mom's. She gave me birthday money. WOOT! I still haven't decided what to get with it yet.

Yesterday, Casey and I worked in the house all day. We are doing some rearranging in order to move our stuff into the bigger bedroom. We are taking everything out, in order to repaint and then move in. We made a lot of progress, but we still have a long way to go.

I guess that I'd better head to bed. Work tomorrow. I'm going to go curl up in bed with a good book and the puppies. Night all!

Good Days

Today was one of those really "Good Days". A day where everything just falls together. Everyone was in a great mood, the sun was shining, and my day started out with a brand new book that was brought to me. It was good, despite the fact that nothing really extrodinary happened. I hope that my birthday tomorrow will be just as good.

I spent most of the evening talking with my very best friend, Barbara. Today is her birthday. It's a funny story. She and I met, when we were twelve years old. But, I think we had been destined to become best friends from the start. See our mothers shared the same hospital room, when we were born. She beat me by a few hours though. The same year that we met and became close, her family moved. It didn't matter. Distance did nothing to our friendship. Now, she lives in Lewiston, Maine, and we are as close as ever. That call really made my day! We've had a long standing tradition, to always talk on our birthdays. Since flying from Maine can be a bit tricky in the winter, we've decided to get together on our half birthdays and celebrate together in June. I sure hope we keep that plan!

Back To Normal

Well as of yesterday, the holidays are officially over. I'm just a little bit bummed. I was enjoying a life of leisure. I miss getting to sleep late and do exactly what I want. In other ways, I'm not. I'm kind of glad to see all of my friends. I will admit to feeling much better resuming my old routine. I'm also feeling better getting back to my workout and running schedule. I guess that time has to move on, with or without me. I might as well go along and enjoy the ride.

Saturday Chores

Today has been spent mostly doing chores. After Casey and I had coffee with Mom this morning, I took her Christmas tree down, packed up all the decorations, took all the other Christmas stuff down, and got it all packed away. Then I came home and took all of our Christmas stuff down and packed it away, including the outside decorations. While I was doing all of this, Casey was hard at work reorganizing the kitchen. While we didn't get to do anything really fun today, we were productive. I love finishing big projects. Tomorrow is regular housecleaning.

Hopefully after cleaining, I can go swim laps. I haven't gotten to swim lately, because of the new pool drain law that went into effect last month. The lap lanes at the Rec Center are closed, until their new drain comes in. They do have a couple of lap lanes down in the other end, and hopefully, I'll get a lane tomorrow. I'd also like to ride my bike, but we'll have to see how much it rains tomorrow. I guess I'll wait and see what tomorrow brings.

Happy New Year 2009!!

I hope that everyone has had a wonderful kickoff to 2009! Casey and I rang in the New Year pretty low key. We got Chinese takeout and stuffed ourselves. Around midnight we cracked a bottle of Reisling and toasted in the New Year with the Zoo Crew. I have some pictures that we made last night to upload tomorrow. BTW, all of the Christmas pictures will be uploaded tomorrow as well. Anyhoo after the New Year ring in, we called it a night about 1:30 a.m. Even though it was VERY low key, we had a GREAT time eating Chinese and watching movies.

This morning, we got up and went over to Mom's house for breakfast and coffee. This afternoon, we've done some more strenous lounging and watched more movies. In just a few minutes, we are going over to my brother's for a traditional New Year's dinner. We need all the luck we can get people...

Tomorrow, our holidays are officially over. It's back to work for both me and Casey. And so it goes... Everyone have a terrific New Year's night!

Reflecting

I know it's New Year's Eve and all, but Casey and I have decided to spend a quiet night at home. We are going to have Chinese food and kung fu movies. WOOT! Casey made a wonderful New Year's Eve breakfast, which we shared with Mom this morning. This afternoon, we've just lounged around. I've been sitting reading with Indiana on my lap. He's feeling better today, but still not quite his usual self. I've been thinking about what a great year 2008 has been for me. There were a lot of "firsts" for both me and Casey:

1. I continued my pursuit of better health.

2. I began my first running program.

3. I ran my first 5k.

4. I applied for and got my first passport.

5. I went on my first cruise ship.

6. I left the country for the first time.

7. I bottle fed and raised 3 kittens for the first time.

8. I raised 3 puppies at the same time.

9. I saw my first foreign beaches.

10. I went to Miami and Ft. Lauderdale for the first time.

It's been a great year of "firsts", but there are a few things that remain a constant in my life.

1. A wonderful, loving husband that makes my life and my home a wonderful place to be.

2. My wonderful family and their good health.

3. All of my wonderful friends: online and in person.

4. All of my fur babies that make my life so wonderful.

There are still some more firsts that I like to do in 2009. I had a whole list earlier, but I can only think of a few right now.

1. Run my first half marathon or at least begin the training for it.

2. Become a U.S. Master Swim member.

3. Take horseback riding lessons.

4. Continue my quest for health.

5. Take another beach vacation.

6. Visit with my friends more often.

7. Never miss an opportunity to be with my family and friends.

To all of you, I wish a very happy and healthy New Year! If you go out, please be safe and have a great time! Here's to a wonderful 2009!

All Is Well

It's been a long day of vacation today. We left the house to take Indiana to Dr. K's around 7:15 this morning. We got him there and settled in by 8:00. We grabbed some breakfast and headed back to Mom's to have coffee. At lunch today, Mom and I met with my oldest friend, Jennifer, and her mother for lunch at Casa Mexicana. We had a great time visiting and catching up. It was so much fun. After lunch, I just came back home and lounged around for a bit. It wasn't long, until Dr. K's office called to let us know that Indiana was doing fine and was ready to come home. We picked him up and got him back home. He's still really sleepy and a little slow moving. He did have a few cookies, a few kibbles of dog food, and a dollop of peanut butter, so nothing is wrong with his appetite. We have to go back in 10 days to have his stitches removed. He's resting comfortably on the couch right now. Shingo really missed him today. He was really out of sorts the whole time he was gone. I have a feeling that Indiana will feel much better in the morning. The vet tech told me I could use some Neosporin on him, if I need to. We'll see. I'm just so glad that he did o.k. and it's over now.

My Big Boy

My sweet, little Indiana Bones has grown up on me. He's going tomorrow morning to be neutered. I would have had it done several months ago, but I just didn't feel like it with the Bell's Palsy. Indy will be a year old the first week of January. I can't believe how fast this first year with him has flown by. It's time for him to go though. All of his little boy hormones are making him a bit bossy with Shingo. We have lots of growling from time to time, and this will fix the problem. I'm feeling a little guilty about taking him tomorrow. It's just the worrying mother in me, I guess. All the rest of the animals in the house are all fixed. He's the last dog. The three youngest kittens haven't been fixed yet, but they won't be a full six months, until next month. They'll all go then. Anyway, I've been giving him lots of extra love and cookies tonight. I had to take up all of his food and water an hour or so ago, but he ate really well until then. Anyway, I know that Dr. K will take good care of him. He will be in the BEST possible hands. I'll just worry anyway, until I have him back home safe and sound tomorrow night. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the best. I'll give you guys an update, when we get him back home tomorrow.

On the Agenda

There was so much that I need to do/wanted to do today. Unfortunately, I woke up with a slamming headache. I've just taken some more meds to get it to go away. Hopefully in a bit, I'll feel better. I want to go run this afternoon and/or go to the park and ride my new bike. Casey and I need to make a Wal-Mart and TSC run for dog and cat food. We have a couple of movies that we need to finish watching. I also need to start the week off from work deep clean. Maybe my head is pounding, because I have so many things I need/want to do, and I can't decide which to do first. Anytime those meds want to start working is good with me...

Maiden Voyage

What a GREAT day. I just got back from seeing Marley and Me with my mom. It was sooooo GOOD!! It made me laugh and cry. It wasn't nearly as good as the book, but it was still very, very good.

After I got back home, Casey had my bike all adjusted and ready to go. It was a nice, warm day. Very good for bike riding. I was a little bit worried that I wouldn't remember how to ride, but I guess they have that saying for a reason. I got on and just took right off. Casey got LOTS of pictures of the first time out. Those will be forthcoming. I'm using the OLD laptop, and it doesn't have a USB 2 port. As soon as I get them uploaded, I'll post them. It's supposed to storm and turn a little cooler tonight, but now I can't wait for tomorrow. I hope it's not too cold to ride. Now, I just have to think of a good name for her. I'm thinking maybe Redbird, but we'll see. If anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to comment. It's a Schwinn Point Beach cruiser bike; bright, shiny red. It has a great place on the back to add a basket. Once I get that and a bell, she'll be complete.

Did You Have A Very Merry?

I know that I sure did. Santa was very, very good to me this year. Casey gave me a big, red, Schwinn cruiser bike. He also gave me a very sweet gift for our 10th married Christmas. He gave me a 1 carat, diamond marquise ring! How sweet was that? My mom gave me a really pretty silver bracelet and blue topaz jewelry. My brother gave me shower stuff to use after I run and swim. My friend Elaine gave me a really cool polka dot swimsuit cover up and some great books. I don't think I could have had a bigger Crhistmas at all! Even the animals at the Zoo had some great gifts. The puppies got 2 huge bags of Christmas cookies from PetCo, and my brother also gave them a huge box box of homemade treats. The kitties got a big box of catnip. Casey got lots of cooking stuff, some cookbooks, and an iPod Nano.

I hope that everyone had as big of a Christmas as I did!

Calm On Christmas Eve

I'm just sitting here, taking a few minutes to enjoy the calm that come before all of the Christmas craziness. I'm sitting here with all of the puppies curled up around me, thinking of how lucky I am. It's been a GREAT year for me, and I've learned so much about myself. I think I love Christmas Eve even more than Christmas. I like the feeling of anticipation. There's a pretty big storm blowing through right now. The Day Before Christmas Eve

The holidays are upon us. I just wanted to take a minute to wish you all a VERY Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I hope it's everything you've dreamed of. I'd like to share a special Christmas story with you. I know that I posted it here a couple of years ago, but it's so good that I wanted to share it again. A legend, if you will...

The Night The Animals Talked

In the frosty mountains and on the snowy fields of Norway, there is a legend that draws children to all kinds to stables and stalls throughout the country on each Christmas Eve night. They are hoping to hear a miracle. They are waiting to hear the animals talk.

Over 2,000 years ago, Jesus was born in a stable in Bethlehem. This was no abandoned place, but was a working stable, filled with animals of all kinds. Into these humble surroundings, encircled by the innocent creatures of God, the Savior of man came into the world.

Now according to legend, at least, Christ's birth occurred at exactly midnight. Inside the stable, the animals watched in wonder as the new-born babe was lovingly wrapped in swaddling clothes and placed in a manger. Suddenly, God gave voice to the animals and immediately they began to praise God for the miracle they had just seen. This went on for several minutes and, just before the entrance of the shepherds -- who had hurried to the stable because angels had told them the Christ had been born there -- the animals again fell silent. The only humans who had heard them were Mary, Joseph and, of course, the Christ child.

The legend of the talking animals persists to this day in Scandinavia. And every Christmas Eve, wide-eyed children creep into stables just before midnight to hear the animals praise God for the wondrous birth of His Son. Of course, adults scoff at this. "Old wives tales," they grump. "Those children should be home in bed, not out in the cold waiting for the family cow to preach a sermon."

But the children know -- or at least believe -- that animals really do praise God at midnight every Christmas Eve. And who of us -- those who believe in an all-powerful God -- can say that it really doesn't happen?

Things You Wish For...

Isn't it funny how you get something on your mind, that you wish for, and it just won't go away? I've found myself in that position the last couple of weeks. All of you know that I run. My dream is to have a big dog that will run with me. My three little ones tire out, before my mileage is done, especially in the summer. My big dog, Fergie, is a couch potato. Her idea of a good time is sleeping by herself on my bed. Even a walk around the block is out of the question for her. She's just NOT interested. Shiloh, my 11 year old, is out of the question. So that leaves me with an opening for a big, running dog. I think that I have a 5k coming up in February, and we're allowed to bring out dogs to run. Nothing would make me happier.

When I used to walk Bear, over on the other block, there was this big, sweet, black Lab named Betty. She always used to keep us company on our walk. She always had the sweetest disposition. I picture a running dog a lot like that. I'd love nothing better than to have a Black Lab to keep me company on my runs. I know that I have a full house right now, so a Lab is out of the question, but that doesn't keep me from wanting one. I love my dogs to pieces, but without Bear, I get so lonely out walking or running. I talked with one of the ladies down at the shelter. We have several Black Labs down there. My hope is to go a couple of times a week and get them and slowly teach them to run with me. There's a big run in May called "See Spot Run", and I hope to have one of them trained to run with me by then. There's several there, so hopefully one of them will enjoy it. I have a feeling that I may have to recruit Jennie to help me a bit. I totally think it's do-able though. Still doesn't keep me from wanting a Lab of my own though. Maybe one day...

What Am I Thinking?

Well folks, I've taken the plunge. I just finished registering and paying for a semester at school, after a four year break. I think that I'm ready. I took a break, because I was REALLY burnt out and needed a rest. I think I'm pretty much good to go now. I'm participating in a program that will accelerate me through the rest of my classes. I was eligible, because of my junior standing and my number of credit hours. I just hope that I haven't bitten off more than I can chew. I was a little worried about it on my way over to the business office, but now that I'm official, I'm kind of excited. It will be nice to finish up these last few classes and get on with my life. So look out Spring 2009! Here I come! Now, Casey and I are both students!

Anyone With Cats...

...will understand this. This is EXACTLY the reason that I can't have a Christmas tree this year, with my three newest kittens. There is no high place that is too high for them...unfortunately.

Christmas Checklist

I spent the better part of the afternoon with Mom wrapping the final Christmas gifts yesterday. This is the first year that I'm NOT going to spend most of the late night Christmas Eve wrapping gifts. Let me tell you, it feels good to be done. I don't mean to gloat or anything, but I AM DONE SHOPPING FOR AND WRAPPING MY CHRISTMAS GIFTS!! I have absolutely NO idea how I managed this accomplishment, except to say that my family has really simplified Christmas. We only buy what we can afford and enjoy our time together. It helps that my family is really small too. This is the least stressed out Christmas that I've had in the past 10 years or so. Of course this means, I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop. I'll slink around in fear until December 25th at 4:00 p.m. HEE HEE!!

Well o.k., I still need to get the puppies their Christmas treat bags. I went to Petco last week and just had a heyday of a time filling up Christmas bags at their treat bar. I was SO excited that I couldn't wait and have already given out most of them. So, I need to go back early next week for refills. It's SO hard not to spoil them! I suspect that I'll grab a few chews and toys to add to the mix too. Hmmm..seems that I may NOT be through after all!

Slip Slidin'

Last night, as a surprise to us all, we came home in driving sleet and snow. We didn't think much of it, because the weather forcasters claimed that it was "nothing to worry about. No accumulation." Well, that's when they always get it wrong it seems. I had planned to go on my nightly run, after changing into my running gear. I made it across town and to the Rec Center. I started to get out of the car and nearly slid down in the parking lot. After some quick thought, I decided that I'd better run my errands and get myself back home. It's a good thing that I did. By the time I got home, I had already seen a fender bender and the side streets had started icing over. Most all of the area schools were out today. In Shelbyville, we had a lot more ice than snow. Further north in Murfreesboro they got a lot more snow. Casey and I got out the door early this morning, since we had no idea what condition the roads were in. We did just fine in Bedford County. As a matter of fact, we even saw the snow plow out scraping that layer of ice off the highway. We hit the Rutherford County line, and things started to get a little dicey. We did a little slippin' and slidin' but overall had no big problems. The drive sure was pretty though. I regret that we didn't have the camera with us. This is the first time in many years, that I can remember having snow or a snow day this early. I have a feeling that it bodes of things to come this winter. The good thing about it is I have a little hope for a white Christmas this year! Seeing snow on the ground sure does put you in the Christmas spirit!

A Visit With Santa Paws

This past Saturday, Bedford County Animal Control held its annual Christmas Open House. Since Indiana wasn't even born last Christmas, this is his first Christmas. I decided to take him to visit with Santa Paws. All of the proceeds from the pictures were donated to the Shelbyville-Bedford County Spay/Neuter Committee. Get ready for tooth rot....

Hello again!

Oh my! I didn't mean to take such a long time to make a post after Thanksgiving. I hope that you all had a fantastic holiday. Ours was terrific this year. Casey cooked everything in the world this year, I think. We had turkey, dressing, green beans, sweet potato casserole, mashed potatoes, spinach gratin, dressed eggs, cranberry sauce, rolls, pumpkin pie, and cheesecake. A mighty big feast for only 6 folks. On Friday, I put up the outside Christmas lights and after dinner we went to visit some friends. On Saturday, I just hung around the house and rested. I still get really tired.

I've been really busy at work this week. We are having our annual student Christmas party. So, I've been out running around for the last two days getting supplies and food. This is the first chance I've had to sit down and blog all week.

Gotta run. More things to get done.

I Rescued a Human Today

This piece is so touching that I had to share it with you all:

I RESCUED A HUMAN TODAY by Janine Allen

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her.

I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn’t be afraid. As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn’t want her to know that I hadn’t been walked today. Sometimes the overworked shelter keepers get too busy and I didn’t want her to think poorly of them.

As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn’t feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone’s life.

She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.

Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms.

I would promise to keep her safe.

I would promise to always be by her side.

I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes.

I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven’t walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.

This Afternoon...

Well, Casey and I are going to pick the car up this afternoon. A little pricey, but avery quick repair thankfully. Afterwards, we are going to pick up a Christmas gift. It's the last of our Christmas shopping. For once, we are ahead of schedule. We're usually the ones that are out shopping like mad on Christmas Eve. Last year there were so many people out shopping, that we got stuck trying to get out of the Target parking lot for over 45 minutes!! Why can't they just make straight entrances anymore? Why all of that spaghetti crap anyway? Getting to stay out of the madness will truly be a welcome change this year.

Nothing big is on the agenda tonight. We were going to go to the drive-in and see Madagascar 2 and Beverly Hills Chihuahua, but it's just way too cold outside and too expensive to keep the car running for four hours straight. So we've rented Wall-E, and we are going to stay nice and cozy in the house. I'm going to swim straight after work, so I'll definitely be ready for a hot shower, hot meal, and my cozy p.j's. Tomorrow, we're going to see Twilight, and I can't wait....

Frustration

Two steps forward. One step back. That certainly feels like the story of my life today. This morning, my car wouldn't start. We got it jumped off fairly quickly. We figured the culprit was the alternator. We took it in for a look. Turns out the connection was just loose...BUT they found that my axels were cracked and needed replacing ASAP. Now, Casey and I know this mechanic as a friend, so when he says it has to be done, it HAS to be DONE. So now, I'm just waiting to see if everything gets done today. Otherwise we can pick it up tomorrow, along with a hefty little bill. I guess that's just life, but it sure is frustrating.

WOW...It's Been a While...

Yes, I am still around. I'm still recovering from the Bell's Palsy. It has been a slow, sometimes painful battle. I had meant to post more frequently than this, but I really just haven't felt like it. I am feeling better this week, so I'm trying to get back to my regular schedule. Hang in there with me...

The Waiting Game

I'm still waiting on the results of my MRI, and it's nearly 4 p.m. I'm taking that as a very good sign. You know the old saying, "No news is good news." I'll update you guys, as soon as I know something. Anyway, I'm feeling just a bit better today. My left eye is still pretty watery, but it's more open today. My mouth may be a "tinch" better. It seems that the cortisone is working. Luckily today I don't have that terrible headache. I hope that means that the inflammation is subsiding. Thanks to everyone for the comments, e-mails, prayers, and good wishes. They are appreciated more than you guys will ever know.

I'm about to upload the pics from Saturdays' 5K, so hopefully, I'll have some to share in a bit. Stay tuned.....

Quick Update

I just wanted to check in and give you guys an update on what's going on with me. I ran my 5K on Saturday morning. I did REALLY well. I finished in 32:33. That's a whole 5 minutes faster than my last time!! WOOT!! Anyhow, Casey and I came home and had some tasty hamburgers for lunch. After lunch, I decided to take a short nap, since I had gotten up so early. When I woke up, I had a nasty headache. This headache lasted all through Saturday night, Sunday, and yesterday. About 2:30 yesterday afternoon, I realized that I couldn't move the left side of my face! Luckily nothing else happened, and it didn't get worse. Years ago, I saw my father have this same condition. It's called Bell's Palsy. The nerve that controls facial motion gets inflamed and therefore, paralized. I had a suspicion that this was my problem. Anyway, I went in to see the doctor today. That was exactly his diagnosis too. Just to make sure, he sent me in to have an MRI. So, that took most all afternoon. I haven't heard the results yet, but I guess no news is good news. So, I'm just playing the waiting game right now. My head still hurts sometimes, but it is some better. Right now my left eye bothers me more, since I can't completely close it, and it dries out. I'm a little self conscious about how wonky my face looks. I can only smile on one side. So, I feel completely ridiculous. My eye also won't open real wide, so my eyes look lopsided. The doc gave me some cortisone, so hopefully, that will reduce the inflammation. I hope that I'm at least some better tomorrow. I want to go back to work, but I need a day or so to get used to this. So far, I've had to re-figure out how to drink, eat, and even blow my nose! It's just too weird. Sorry that this has rambled a bit, but I just wanted to give everyone an update on what's going on with me. I do have pictures from Saturday's 5K, and I'll try to get them posted as soon as I feel better. Everyone please send prayers and good thoughts my way that the MRI results come back normal. I'd greatly appreciate it.

Keep On Keepin' On...

Not much new news to report. I've lightened my workout load this week, to give my body some extra rest for the upcoming 5K. I ran a couple of days and swam a couple days. Now, I get 2 days of rest time. Rest time is good, because I seem to have tweaked my right hip. It seems it was more from swimming breaststroke than running though. Something a little rest can't cure.

The zoo brood is doing good. Since the weather has gotten cooler, they like to snuggle a lot more. They love Mom's gray, fuzzy blanket. When I bring it out, it's like telling them it's nap time. They just love to curl up with me, when I get it out.

Getting Ready...Again!

Sorry that I wasn't around much last week. Every week, since Celebration Pet Day has been SO incredibly busy. By the time I get home, I'm just too tired to blog. I'm getting ready for my 2nd 5K this weekend. It's the United Way 5K Spooktacular. I went and checked out the race course yesterday. The first part is pretty flat, but they have some REALLY big hills right at the end...and, oh yeah, speed bumps that we have to navigate not too far from the finish line. Geez! As if I wasn't a big enough klutz enough on my own, that they had to go and add speed bumps into the mix. Oh well, here's to not breaking something important! Hopefully, I will at least do as well as I did in the last one. I'm hoping to gain some time, since the weather will be quite a bit cooler than it was in August. I'll report my results, after the race this weekend.

I Went Away For A While...

Sorry about being away last week. I was SO exhausted from Pet Day, that I just needed a little time to recharge. Things are getting back to normal at the house. This is another busy week for me. My coworker fell last Thursday night at work and broke her foot. Now, she is tangled in all of the worker's comp mess. She is still waiting, today, to even get into see an orthopedist! Anyway, I'm working late two nights this week. Looks like all work and no play for me this week! At least I can head over to the Rec Center and workout/swim/run on my supper hours. WHEEEEEEE!!

Celebration Pet Day Wrap Up

We all had a FANTASTIC time at pet day this year! We had a big crowd of people, and it looked like everyone enjoyed themselves. I actually got to see more of pet day this year, than any other year. I was especially happy that I got to see all of The Comedy Canines performance! They were SO good, and their trainer, Dawn, was a really sweet person. I'm hoping that they'll come back again next year. I got a lot of feedback, while I was there this year. Everyone seemed to really enjoy all of the programming too. I've spent the last three days trying to rest up. I was VERY exhausted, after everything was over. I had worked out at the Ag Center on Thursday night, most of the day Friday, and of course all day on Saturday. I don't think I accomplished anything on Sunday, except to wake up. I got up out of bed and went straight to the couch. That's where I stayed, until time for bed! Anyway, I'm glad that everything went smoothly. It won't be long, before we start planning for next year.
