Casey and I watched
March of the Penguins last night. It is a truly wonderful film. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend that you go to your video store and get it. This movie follows Emperor Penguins for a year of their lives, particularly their over 70 mile march to the breeding ground every year. I was amazed at the life habits of these animals. Their ability to not only exist in Antartica, but to flourish and raise their young is incredible. To me it is amazing that anything could survive their living conditions. Did you know that the average Emperor Penguin is 3ft. tall and weighs approximately 60 lbs, and that the males while hatching the young go without food for nearly 4 months! On the DVD, there are also 2 really wonderful additional documentaries with further information. This film really drove home how VERY important it is that we conserve our environment. Everything we do, affects a living creature somewhere on this earth. We must learn to conserve and instill in our children the same thing, or our earth will lose some of its most precious inhabitants.
