Should or Shouldn't I?

I'm only into my second week without Slate. Last week, I promised myself that I would take my time to heal. I wouldn't rush out and get a "replacement" dog to fill my emptiness; one would find me in good time. Then I received a picture of a tiny dachshund mix named Digger yesterday to post at my newspaper blog. His picture spoke to me and is still speaking today. He's on borrowed time at the county animal control facility. I've e-mailed my friend that works down there with several of questions. Now I have to decide if I should go meet him. What do you guys think? Should or shouldn't I?????

Absolutely! You aren't trying to replace Slate. You know that is impossible. But adopting this baby will serve two purposes...one you will have another puppy to love and two...this little pup will have a wonderful life living with two wonderful people that love animals. How can any of that be wrong??? Go for it.

Don't do like I have done. I had to have my dog put to sleep in 1988 and I never got another one. I was waiting for one that could replace her....I finally realized there isn't any and never will be one that can replace her. So I have wasted all these years without a dog. I have my wonderful baby cat (Turbo), but I miss having a dog.

You have enough love to give to this baby. Don't feel guilty thinking you are trying to replace Slate...you never can, but you can go forward and give this one a chance. I think you should go for it!! Just my opinion...my LONG opinion. :)

Digger won't be a replacement for Slate, he will be a gift for your heart! Do it! Hurry.

Cheryl,
I don't think you're trying to "replace" Slate. My belief is dog's come into our lives for a reason...and there's always a special time for them to arrive.

As strange as it may sound Slate's passing has opened your home to take in another little one who needs someone. I just believe things always happen for a reason. Good luck with your meeting.

I know when we lost Chase I said I'd never have another Dalmatian. Three months later...there in the weekely paper was a picture of a Dalmatian at a local shelter. I just kind of ignored it and figured someone else would adopt her. A month later and her picture appeared again. I was going to check her out to get her into "rescue". She ended up coming home with us and that's how we ended up with Razz. =)

Sending much love...
